Too Hot For Wine? Not a Sauvignon Blanc!

This is a great wine in the middle of the summer. Sauvignon Blanc wine is best served cool and refreshing. It is tangy, with great fruity flavors. Typically of citrus, apple and pear. Also, smells strongly of grass or hay. Some exceptions though are New Zealand wines that have more tropical flavors. These smell and taste of guava, pineapple, and lychee.

My first introduction to it was at a summer barbecue. I had never had a dry white wine. I know, but my parents like sweet wines. The one I was drinking smelled of honey and tasted of pears.

It was good and it went well with fish. I had never liked sweet wines for this.

Then, as I was introduced to smells, I learned that all white wines don't taste the same. Again, I know but white wine definitely has to overcome this hurdle.

The more Sauvignon that I drink, the more I can distinguish each wine's unique flavors. It is a delightful quest and one I willingly take on for you!

An easy way to find a good Sauvignon is to look for one from New Zealand. I sent a friend to the store to buy some for a recent meal with only that bit of information. She showed up with a 2007 Oyster Bay from the Marlborough region. Why that wine? It was the prettier bottle of the two chilled Sauvignon. I highly recommend going and finding this white wine.

Want to see some feedback on a good California version of this wine, check out Debra and my video on a Matanzas Creek Sauvignon.
