Barolo, Barbaresco? They are made from this grape, Nebbiolo.

The Nebbiolo grape is one of the best grapes in the world when it comes to aging. Unlike its fellow tannin filled friend, Cabernet Sauvignon, you can regularly find a wine that is 100% of this grape.

One of the reasons these grapes age so well is their thick skins. It protects them from disease as well. They love to grow in temperate climates and because of this stay longer on the vine.

This type of red wine is great with red meats, and strong flavors. It has that ever so beautiful taste of truffles and of course strong red berries. In my opinion, it is best to wait at least 5 years. Any younger and it is too tannic.

Older, well, it just keeps getting better and better. There are 30 year old wines out there from the Barolo wine region and Barbaresco (this Ceretto Bernardot is one of the less expensive wines from this region) that are still getting better. Nebbiolo wine is another one of those wines, if you get the chance, drink it!
