Want a Great Argentine Wine? Try a Malbec.

After phylloxera and frost killed many Bordeaux vines, Argentinian Malbec wine emerged. This grape was one of the six great grapes of Bordeaux and may also be called Auxerrois in France. Now, it has become a great Argentine wine.

This is a great, fruity red. Not nearly as tannic as its Chilean neighbor, Carmenere and lighter bodied too. It reminds me a bit of Pinot Noir in the glass. The coloring can vary from red to dark purple almost blue and it's good for people that like dark berries, cassis and even plum. This is real fresh plum though, not the raisin like taste you get in dessert wines.

It can be gamey and goes well with gamey or red meats, barbecue, and strong flavored foods. I like this wine with charcuterie. Or even better, with some steak and some chimichurri sauce. Mmmmmmmmm... It is a nice value driven wine and unlike other reds that started out in Bordeaux, you're likely to find some good wine in the $8-10 range.
