The Beaujolais is coming! Gamay Grapes Fun Wine

I have never seen a wine announced so fervently as the Gamay wine Beaujolais. One fall in Bordeaux, I was surprised to see signs everywhere announcing the arrival of this year's Beaujolais wine. Every wine should be announced with this type of hurrah.Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2006 from Labels at Wine Library

I would hazard to guess that it is because it announces the arrival of spring as well. Most of the Bordeaux wines, are the worlds best types of red wine. Pauillac, Margaux, and St. Emilion are home to the Premier Grand Cru Classe and great wines that age well. Young, they are too tannic but this red is meant to drink as soon as it is released. This is not a wine to cellar. This is a wine to enjoy now.

Beaujolais Nouveau wine makes a light red. Bright and fruity, best enjoyed with lighter foods. It is a red that goes well with fish and poultry. Or with appetizers like cheese, no desserts though. It is not a sweet wine, just a fruity one.

You may even go so far as to chill it. Just make sure it is not the Beaujolais-Villages or Beaujolais Cru version. They need the warmth to breath and develop their bouquet. They can be kept around a little longer too. They smell of berries and many times are spicier wines. Very different from the fruity Nouveau. Another group of wines that definitely deserve your attention!
