What's The Best Box Wine?

This question, what's the best box wine is taboo with a lot of people. Not me though, why? Because there are some great wines that come in inexpensive, easy to ship and recyclable containers like a box.

My favorite of these wines is a Three Thieves Wine. These guys have bucked the norm by making jug wines first and now this Bandit Pinot Grigio, the best boxed wine I've tasted. They come in both liter and half liter boxes and the box tells you all the reasons to try boxed wines. From the fact that they are cheaper to ship, to the fact that you get more wine in them, a liter vs. 750ml. I like the crisp green apple flavor of this Pinot Grigio.

Something else to keep in mind with box wines is that you really do get more for your money. The boxes typically come in 1L-3L and can vary from $5-$30. Some are good, some aren't but they're worth giving a try.

Don't like white wines, Three Thieves makes a Bandit Cabernet Sauvignon. Not my favorite but not bad. Or French Rabbit Vin de Pays Pinot Noir.

Also, try non-American boxed wines. These tend to be better. Australian, European and South American are the best in my opinion.

Another great reason to keep some boxed wine around is that it doesn't oxidize after opening like a bottle will. You've got between 30-60 days to drink it after you've opened it.

Embarrassed about trying it? It's really common for good wine to come in a box outside the United States, so just tell your friends it's totally normal in Europe. Just pretend your being hip. If they don't know wine they won't know the difference and it's absolutely true.
